Martin Franz-Xaver Wagner heads the Chair of Materials Science at Chemnitz University of Technology. His field of research is the relationship between the microstructure and mechanical behaviour of metallic materials. Current work focuses on the highly plastic deformation of light metals, martensitic transformations and twin formation in structural and functional materials, the thermo-mechanical treatment of high-strength steels and highly dynamic materials testing.
