Dr Dirk Helm is head of the Manufacturing Processes business unit at the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials IWM. His research focuses on the modelling of thermomechanically coupled effects in the plastic deformation of metals and on the modelling of microstructure-property relationships using mean-field models and machine learning models.
